Olive snails spend their time burrowing through the substrate eating algae and cyano bacteria from the sand bed but they are also meat eaters.

Olive snails for sale are omnivorous, which means they have the ability to hunt live prey.

The unique method that they use is a tube on the snout that acts like a super sensor that allows the Olive snail to detect prey like small crabs, shrimp, and other snail that happen to run around on the sand bed.

Then the Olive snail comes from below the sand and slowly engulfs the unsuspecting victim with a clear gel which is not poisonous but will slowly incapacitate the prey and then they can eat it by slowly digesting it when it is unable to move or breath anymore.

This does not mean that your crabs or shrimp or other snails will automatically become prey or get eaten by the beautiful Olive snail.

These other animals do have their own defenses against such attacks and can learn to survive against the Olive snail.
